To do these mappings, you click “Remap a Key', then the Plus icon at the bottom. You could also do this with the Windows key on the right, if you have one. Since I was overriding the Windows key, I moved that up to Caps Lock, since I never use it anyway. This is basically making the Windows key to the left of the spacebar into the Ctrl key, which does similar things as the Cmd key on a Mac. Take the first one in there - I mapped Page Up to the home key (that one wasn’t Mac specific - I just kept accidentally hitting it ?). Like the heading says, you get to map a single key. The key feature (see what I did there?) of PowerToys that lets my keyboard be all apple-ey is the keyboard manager. There’s no cmd on Windows - it just opens the start menu. Muscle memory keeps kicking in and my thumbs reach for the cmd key instead of ctrl. I switched to Windows from Mac a few months back, and I’m used to just about everything except the keyboard. My first-favorite feature is Powertoys Run - the spotlight-like feature for Windows.

Feel free to send a PR to this project.I wrote a bit about PowerToys previously, but today we’re gonna talk about my second-favorite feature: the keyboard manager. Run the python script vs-code-default-keybindings/scripts/process_json.py. Use Quick Open (ctrl+shift+P on Windows and Linux, cmd+shift+P on Mac) and type in Open Default Keyboard Shortcuts (JSON).Ĭopy the contents of the file that is opened and paste them into a file named vs-code-default-keybindings/scripts/ (or vs-code-default-keybindings/scripts/ or vs-code-default-keybindings/scripts/) Now an instance of VSCode will appear that has no extensions loaded.

If the latest keybindings for your OS are missing, let me know, or open a PR! How to get the latest keybindings if the ones here aren't up to date (optional): If you're on a mac and want linux keys, copy the values from and paste them in your keyboard shortcuts, then copy and paste everything in. To use them, Open up "Keyboard Shortcuts (JSON)", paste the negative keybindings for your current platform, then the keybindings for the platform you want. You may find these useful if you switch platforms and want your old key map back, although it's likely that you will run into conflicts with system shortcuts. I've also included negative keybindings, which unmap the keybindings. A collection of default keybindings for VS Code on Mac, Windows and Linux.Ī list of the default keybindings for VS Code is surprisingly hard to find, even in the VS Code source, so I collected them all here.
